Sophisticated Row Home in Logan Circle, Washington, DC

This 1880s row home with a long and storied history started as the family residence for a presidential photographer, and passed through several owners, including a geologist and Alaskan pioneer, a Black music, social, and literary club, and a Phi Beta Sigma fraternity house. In 2019, it fell to us to transform this 130-year-old monument into a two-unit condominium. While fully rehabilitating and renovating the building, we installed thoroughly modern conveniences and finishes while retaining the house’s distinguished roots. A reclaimed exposed structural beam in the upper kitchen brings in extra sun from the tall windows, contrasting the sleek Shaker cabinets and contemporary appliances and hardware.
